Today's News: Our Take

Turns out Paris Hilton doesn't have to be engaged in a sex act to draw a crowd. Roughly 13 million curiosity seekers watched the celebutante slum it in the heartland with pal Nicole Richie on last night's premiere of Fox's The Simple Life. The show handily beat the debut of NBC's The Tracy Morgan Show. read more

The Tracy Morgan Show And the...

The Tracy Morgan Show
And the award for Most Inappropriate Use of "Brick House" goes to... The Tracy Morgan Show! Seriously, what were the producers thinking playing that tune — which runs a close second to "Sexy M.F." as the Least Subtle Song Ever — while Tracy and his two sons ogle a 13-year-old girl? Have we learned nothing from the Michael Jackson saga? I do have to say that watching this sitcom made me appreciate the child actors on The Bernie Mac Show all the more. At least when they act annoying, it's on purpose. As for Tracy Morgan himself, he seems to be channeling George Jefferson by way of George Lopez. Yeah, I don't think that's a good combination either.

Someone at CBS's Providence, R.I., affiliate, WPRI, is getting coal for Christmas. A station spokeswoman conceded to TV Guide Online that the local news teaser was "poorly placed." Tell that to the thousands of kiddies who now think Frosty is a killer. read more

Bridget Jones Returns!

The tabloids have been making a big deal about all those extra pounds Ren&#233e Zellweger packed on for Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the forthcoming sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary (2001). But Colin Firth, reprising his role as Bridget's dashing beau Mark Darcy, doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

"I've always preferred Ren&#233e, physically, in Bridget mode," he says. "I think that it's very pleasing. She's a very beautiful girl whatever she does, but I think that [as] Bridget [she] looks gorgeous and I wouldn't see any great need to get on the treadmill afterward."

The 43-year-old Love Actually star is still a bit befuddled by all of the attention the followup is generating. "About a month ago, I was told, 'Don't say anything read more

Finally! After umpteen lame-o movies based on Saturday Night Live skits, Mad TV alum Alex Borstein is bringing her most popular character, loopy manicurist Mrs. Swan, to the multiplex.
