Downton and miniseries Hatfields & McCoys followed with 16 nods, while breakout hit Homeland scored eight, including nods for leads Damian Lewis and Claire Danes.

Jimmy Kimmel to host Emmy Awards

Horror Story, which entered in the TV series/miniseries race, is up against Game Change, Hatfields & McCoys, Luther, Hemingway & Gellhorn and Sherlock: Scandal in Belgravia.
Two-time defending comedy series champ Modern Family, which earned 14 nods, will vie for a three-peat against three-time champ 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm and new series Girls and Veep.Girls' and Veep's lead stars Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus also nabbed lead comedy actress nods. Joining them are fellow newbie Zooey Deschanel(New Girl), defending champ Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), past champs Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation).Among the snubs were American Idol in reality-competition series and House's Hugh Laurie — in his final year — for lead drama actor.
