Mad Men, Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire Dominate Emmy Nominations

Mad Men topped the prime-time Emmy nominations Thursday with 19, while new faces and the long overlooked Friday Night Lightsfinally broke through to the big race. The miniseries Mildred Pierce led all nominations with 21.
Both shows will vie for drama series honors against Dexter, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire. Mad Men will aim for the first four-peat since The West Wing swept from 2000-03.
Newbies Boardwalk and Game of Thrones put up a good showing, earning 18 and 13 nominations, respectively, while reigning comedy series champ Modern Family reeled in 17.

Modern Family will try to defend its title against Glee, The Office, three-time champ 30 Rock, and first-time nominees The Big Bang Theory and Parks and Recreation.
Defending champ Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) was snubbed in the drama actress race, which features Kathy Bates (Harry's Law), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).
Mike & Molly's Melissa McCarthy,who announced the nominations with Joshua Jackson, received her first nomination for comedy lead actress.
HBO was the most nominated network with 104 nods, followed by CBS (50) and NBC (46).
The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jane Lynch, airs Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8/7c on Fox.
