12 Years a Slave Screenwriter "Regrets" Not Thanking Director Amid Feud

12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley has apparently softened his stance towards director Steve McQueen.

After Ridley snubbed McQueen on his way up to the stage at the Oscars and then neglected to thank the director in his acceptance speech for Best Adapted Screenplay, it emerged that Ridley and McQueen had been feuding because Ridley refused to give McQueen a co-writing credit on the script for 12 Years.

"I do regret it," Ridley said of leaving McQueen out of his speech. "But just 24 hours earlier at the Spirit Awards I sincerely went on and on about Steve and my work with him. You know, the guy changed my life. At the Oscars you have 30 seconds to talk, and it's like the oxygen drops out of the room."

Ridley also says the feud between him and McQueen was blown out of proportion by the media. "In the end, I said to somebody else, 'At the very least we weren't Zero Dark Thirty. Nobody set up a congressional investigation.' This year it's who hugged and kissed who and who didn't."
