Kevin Costner displays some charisma, for once, in a twisty, stylish espionage thriller. Tom Farrell (Costner) is a Naval officer working in the Pentagon who discovers that his lover, Susan (Young), is also the mistress of his boss, Secretary of Defense Brice (Hackman). When Brice arrives

unexpectedly at Susan's lavish duplex, Tom sneaks out a side door, and although Brice sees Tom in the dark street outside, he cannot identify him. Brice then explodes with jealousy, and he and Susan get into a fierce argument that leads to Susan's accidental fall over a railing to her death. A

shaken Brice returns to his offices in the Pentagon and there seeks the help of another aide, the ruthlessly ambitious Scott Prichard (Patton), who goes to Susan's duplex, wipes away fingerprints, and removes all traces of his boss. Next, to throw off investigators, he introduces a theory that the

killer is a KGB mole long rumored to be operating in the Pentagon. Ironically, Tom, who knows that Brice is the real culprit, is then put in charge of ferreting out the fictitious enemy agent. A worthy remake of the film noir classic THE BIG CLOCK, NO WAY OUT adds, among other things, a

delightfully subversive twist ending. Good performances from a strong cast.
