After being unfairly sentenced to death, a black man takes his case to a higher court presided over by Harris. This Jewish judge ignores all prejudices that have been stirred up against the case and gives the man a fair trial. Despite threats against him and his family (including a

bombing) Harris listens only to his conscience and finds the man innocent. In the end his career is ruined, but Harris knows he has done the right thing. What could have been an interesting drama dealing with some hard issues is unfortunately reduced to a naive melodrama thanks to unimaginative

filmmaking. By 1933 the camera had achieved mobility but this looks like a filmed play, with actors remaining firmly in place most of the time. The cast is sincere, but sincerity doesn't always assure quality. This was an independent production and the first in a proposed series dealing with the

problems of Jewish Americans.
