This remake of Preston Sturges' 1948 classic features Dudley Moore in the role originally essayed by Rex Harrison. Claude Eastman (Moore) is an orchestra conductor who is married to Daniella (Nastassja Kinski), an internationally renowned actress. The two are madly in love, but Norman

(Albert Brooks), Claude's brother-in-law, tells the conductor that he thinks Daniella has been fooling around. The object of her affections appears to be Maxmillian Stein (Armand Assante), a handsome young violinist who is to appear in concert with Claude. After meeting with the detective who has

been following Daniella, Claude is convinced he's being cuckolded. He confronts Maxmillian, who admits to having an affair--the violinst has really been sleeping with Norman's wife. Claude misunderstands him, and at their concert he imagines how he will kill Daniella and set up Maxmillian as the

murderer. There are a few sparkles of humor here, but this remake is an inferior product. Whereas Sturges played out his story with wit and flair, Howard Zieff's direction is flat and uninspired. The film moves from one scene to another with a broad comic style that often telegraphs exactly what

will happen to the characters.
