While tallying the day's receipts one night, three postal workers are surprised by two robbers. Vaughan is killed during the holdup, and Travers is badly wounded in the head. McGoohan gives the thieves the money but later is treated like a coward. Travers is treated like a hero and is

rewarded with a promotion that originally was to have been McGoohan's. McGoohan's wife, McKenna, postal authorities, and the police begin to suspect that McGoohan was in cohoots with the robbers. Later the man who has endured such humiliation learns that it was Travers who was actually in on the

plot. McGoohan confronts the guilty man with a gun and forces him to admit his part in the robbery, thus regaining the respect he once held. In real life McKenna and Travers, who later starred in BORN FREE, were husband and wife. Filmed on location in a small Swedish town.
