Six men are jailed for murder, but their jailer feels that no matter what their crime, they are basically good and he sets out to prove it. Though at first suspicious, the men gradually come to an understanding with their keeper. They help farm a once-barren area and take their produce to

market where an unscrupulous dealer tries to wreck all the jailer has worked for. Back on the farm a herd of cattle gets loose, killing the jailer. However, the six have come to understand what they are capable of doing and the dead man's dream lives on. This is a well-made drama, a bit naive at

times, but effective overall. The cast works well as an ensemble, backed by strong direction that cares about the material. Shantaram, who played the kindly jailer, also served as director.
