The first teaming of Loren, Mastroianni, and De Sica, this lighthearted little farce casts Mastroianni as a handsome cab driver who picks up Loren and her three male companions, who are on their way to the beach. When they get to their destination, Loren encourages the cabbie to join in

the fun, and before he knows it, his fares are trying to steal his cab. He captures Loren and takes her to the police station, but her endlessly chattering explanation of the event takes Mastroianni by surprise and he begins to wonder whether or not he overreacted. To further confuse things,

Mastroianni meets Loren's father, De Sica, and is so impressed with the man's obvious integrity that he realizes that Loren cannot possibly have meant to rob him. He accompanies the father and daughter out of the police station and suddenly begins noticing that both of them are crooks, filching

anything they can get their hands on by pretending to be an honorable old man and his sweet, beautiful daughter. At home, there are several more family members who also join in on the "business" of conning, robbing, and cheating. Mastroianni once again tries to have them all arrested, but De Sica

and Loren are too clever and they again bamboozle the police into believing that it is Mastroianni who is the suspicious one. Determined to rid society of this menace, Mastroianni decides to marry Loren and force her to go straight. This typically inane Italian comedy is brightened somewhat by the

rapport between the lead performers. De Sica nearly steals the show as the Fagin-like patriarch of the criminal brood.
