He plays a portrait artist who tries to woo the stodgy businesswoman, with little success. But the inevitable happens, romance blossoms and Loy is suddenly faced with the problem of explaining her wedding ring. THIRD FINGER, LEFT HAND was made at the height of Loy's popularity with the American

public, and she does a good comic job here. Unfortunately, the story is ever so routine, hampered by poor dialog and badly constructed scenes. Loy overcomes the script problems, and Douglas is his usual charming self. The direction is adequate, though hampered by the script.
