Good biographical feature stars Donat as William Pitt, the famous English politician and statesman. He rises to prominence early and becomes prime minister at age 24. Morley plays Charles Fox, Pitt's political nemesis who eventually comes to respect the youthful leader. When war with

France comes in 1793, Pitt's career is imperiled, but he leads his country against Napoleon until his health begins to fail and he resigns after the British suffer a string of battlefield defeats in 1801. In 1804 he returns to power as the tide turns against Napoleon after the Battle of Trafalgar,

although he dies in 1806 before the final defeat of the French. Mostly an excercise in wartime propaganda as Britain faced another threatened invasion from the continent. Donat is marvelous, as always, but Morley nearly steals the picture as his rival. The direction by Reed is restrained and the

film may move too slowly for the impatient, but it does have its rewards, among them excellent costumes and sets and intelligent scripting.
