Some of Italy's most talented directors were gathered together to make this monstrosity of short segments, none well developed or worth a glance--with the possible exception of Visconti's effort. In "The Witch Burned Alive," Mangano plays a famous film star staying at a resort in the

Alps where she is the center of attention. The men eye her because they adore her and the women because they hate her. Beneath all the attention, Mangano is a lonely and isolated woman, pregnant by a husband who does not want her to have a child. The other segments are not worth mentioning.
