Dix is a British officer on leave in London who falls in love with Ralston. Discovering that she is the vacationing wife of his commanding officer Heggie, he disavows his feelings and requests a transfer from his regiment. Returning to India, Dix goes to the rescue of Ralston and some

other Britons who are trapped in a Buddhist monastery, besieged by hostile tribesmen. Believing themselves doomed, the lovers unite and confess their feelings for one another. Their terminal reveries are interrupted by Buddhist priest de Brulier, who lectures them about oriental mysticism. At the

conclusion of the interminable theology lesson, reinforcements arrive, led by none other than the lady's husband, who declares his undying love for her. Husband Heggie is then conveniently killed by a stray bullet, which tells us something about his karma. Released in both silent and sound

versions.
