THE VIOLENT BREED is yet another of those anonymous jungle action pictures from Italy that invariably feature aging black actor Woody Strode. Paolo (Strode), Kirk Cooper (Henry Silva), and Mike Martin (Harrison Muller) are three commandos who launch a secret mission into Southeast Asia to

rescue a group of refugee children. At a crucial moment in the operation, Paolo betrays his comrades without explanation. Years later, Cooper, now in the CIA, orders Martin to return to Southeast Asia in search of Paolo, who is now running drugs and arms for the KGB and the Mafia. A totally

ludicrous amalgamation of Vietnam war films, political conspiracy thrillers, and gangster movies, THE VIOLENT BREED makes little sense among the poorly staged shootouts. It lurches from scene to scene with no sense of order or cohesion. Silva is barely in the film, Muller isn't worth watching, and

for some reason Strode's voice is dubbed. Even the most undiscriminating action freaks will be bored by this one.
