The conflict between the simple down-home verities of the farm country and the self-serving survivalist way of life in the big city forms the basis for this "family" picture. MacLane--in a switch from his usual casting--is a dispossessed farmer, a victim of drought, on whose farm a bank

has foreclosed. He, wife Wiley, and son Larson have emigrated to an urban area in the hope of making a more certain living. Young Larson, in particular, has difficulty in adjusting to his new environs because of the local gang of young toughs. His dog, Hobo, though rejected by the armed forces for

service in WW II, proves to be heroic on the home front. With his young master, Hobo rounds up a gang of saboteurs and saves former farmer MacLane from a fiery death, activities which appear to portend a reasonable adjustment to urbanity. Its many sure-winner story elements make this one a classic

in the "I Made Love to a Bear for the FBI and Found God" sweepstakes.
