German scientist to make a love potion so that Nedashkovskaya will love him as well. However, Koberidze's mistress, Rudnaya, replaces the love potion with poison. A great feast is held for Glebov to announce his upcoming marriage, but before he arrives, Nedashkovskaya drinks the poison and goes

mad as she dies. Glebov enters and Koberidze admits planting the poison. He is hauled away by guards, but suddenly Rudnaya admits her guilt. Koberidze stabs her and is finally taken away by Glebov's men.
