Some of the visuals are stunning, but they are much better suited for a short rather than feature-length film. Fonda plays a television director who decides to clear up problems generated by his complex personal and professional life. Under Dern's guidance, he takes off on a night of images

symbolizing his troubled mind, doing such things as dying and being reborn, getting chased by hooded horsemen, and experiencing sex with a mysterious girl who teaches him to better understand the proceedings. These images more closely resemble a bad dream following an overdose of

pepperoni-and-onion pizza than the result of ingesting hallucinogenic drugs.
