Hawkins stars as a police detective patiently sorting through the scant clues left after a mysterious robbery of a safe. As Hawkins investigates, the robberies continue, and the detective notes that all the safes were of the same make. Checking the employee records of the safe

manufacturing company, Hawkins learns that the only possible suspect has been dead for quite some time. When a workman trying to stop the robber's getaway is killed, the stakes get even higher. Hawkins continues to dig and eventually reveals that the man, Leech, is not dead at all and, in fact,

fooled the police who arrived at his first robbery by posing as a night watchman. The detective sets a trap for Leech at the London Festival Hall, and in an exciting climax justice is served. This unsensational but solid crime thriller counterpoints Hawkins' dedicated investigation with the

domestic situation at his dreary middle-class home. It was the last film Ealing Studios produced in their own facilities.
