in contemporary Halian society and individual concerns take precedence. The film reveals how Togliatti's death affects different people from diverse backgrounds. In one story, a man's wife falls into a lesbian relationship with one of his old girl friends while he attends the funeral. Another has

a Venezuelan radical in bed with his rich lover, only to leave her to go back to his homeland and help "the cause." A philosophy student decides to take a rebel stand in another of the sections. THE SUBVERSIVES was directed by the team of Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, who had 10 years of excellent

filmmaking experience at the time.
