After being released from a mental hospital, Curram takes some barbituates down to the local movie theater. There he passes out the colored tablets to some children, telling them it's candy. The kids become very ill and are rushed to the hospital. Archard is the cop who leads the

investigation, and Anderson plays Curram's worried mother. The story never panders to its more-sensational elements but is, instead, an intelligent and sensitive thriller. THE SILENT PLAYGROUND was made as a first-time feature on a $75,000 budget and was shot in only 24 days. Director Goulder

brings to the film his experience from documentary filmmaking with fine results. The dialog is natural and the story well directed, with tight control over a sensitive topic.
