Toho Studios took a break from giant monster movies to produce a few interesting sci-fi films dealing with matter-transformation. In THE SECRET OF TELEGIAN, the police become concerned when a number of ex-soldiers in the Imperial Japanese Army are found dead with mysterious glass coils

and dog tags at their sides. The cops track down a potential victim, and the panicked veteran tells them that during the war, he and his unit (members of which have now been murdered) were given the task of hiding a brilliant scientist vital to the war effort. When the greedy soldiers learned that

gold bars were among the scientist's research materials, they decided to steal them. One of their number, a corporal, protested the theft and was sealed up in the cave along with the scientist. As it turns out, the scientist was developing a way to teleport soldiers from one area to another, and

the police surmise that he succeeded. The entombed corporal had been using the scientist's invention to get revenge on those who tried to kill him by teleporting himself to the victim, murdering him, and then teleporting back to his hideout.
