An inane British comedy starring Booth as a naive young "nebbish" who follows his mother's advice about having faith in mankind and rises from a lowly British policeman to the ruler of a South American country. Booth gets his first break while investigating the murder of the husband of

sexy dressmaker Stevens. Unbeknownst to Booth, his mother Dolby suspects an illicit connection between Stevens and the magistrate and uses her knowledge to get her son promoted to inspector. While inspector, Booth begins an affair with a baroness (Blackman) who is breeding giant spiders in her

basement, and once more his mother's conniving gets him appointed liaison officer to a dictator of a small South American country. Once there Booth falls in with revolutionary Jones and accidentally winds up as the new leader of the country. Moronic and unfunny.
