George Sanders plays the Robin Hood-like sleuth in this second installment in "The Saint" series, having taken over the role from Louis Hayward. In this one, the Saint and Inspector Henry Fernack (Hale, reprising his role from THE SAINT IN NEW YORK) are bound for San Francisco to prove

that the murdered father of Val Travers (Barrie) was not the brains behind a series of clever murders. Sanders, on loan from 20th Century-Fox, takes the role and makes it his own. Until this film he had been slowly working his way into the Hollywood system after coming from England. Wendy Barrie

does a nice job as the female lead, good support is provided in the secondary roles, and spine-tingling direction makes the most of a clever script. After this film The Saint was a guaranteed winner in the public eye and RKO had a monster hit on its hands.
