Steamy, vice-ridden Babylon is the setting for this colorful bibical costumer starring Montalban as a heroic Chaldean rebel leader whose rival is the nefarious Assyrian king, Lupi. Montalban first meets Fleming, a curvaceous peasant girl, when he hides out in her hut to avoid capture by

Lupi's forces. Fleming is found by Lupi, who becomes enamored of her beauty and takes her into his royal fold. Later Lupi falls victim to poison, and the finger is pointed at Fleming. The real killer turns out to be Ninchi, an unscrupulous advisor to the king who has his own ideas about ruling

Assyria. Montalban performs many a heroic act to liberate Fleming and the entire kingdom from the corrupt clutches of its ruling body, winning Fleming's love by the finale. Definitely not subscribing to the postulate "less is more," THE QUEEN OF BABYLON is brimming with lavish costumes,

spectacular sets, and vibrant color. While the plot and acting are practically negligible, it is the film's sense of epic dimension that makes it so watchable. Also boosting the film's "size" is the bombastic score by Renzo Rossellini, brother of director Roberto. Dubbed in English.
