This pleasant French farce has Bourvil being awarded a prize for his virtuousness when a committee of small-town gossips cannot find a girl to fill the bill. But the fun had at Bourvil's expense leaves the young man depressed, and in a drunken state he threatens to drown himself. Instead

he finds himself wandering down a road when he is picked up by Perrey, who takes him to her Paris apartment. When Bourvil comes back to the small town, he has changed from an effeminate youth to a man. Bourvil brings much charm to his role, pulling off the change in his character effectively. The

script and direction are both smooth in this imaginative production. The story was originally filmed with Fernandel in the lead role and released in the US as HE (1934) in a dubbed version. (In French; English subtitles.)
