Spoiled Liberty enjoys his status as the nation's First Dog but only warms to President Thornton Caldwell (Fred Willard) whenever there's a photo op. Preoccupied with budget cuts, the President plans to close recreation and daycare centers, much to the dismay of Nate (Cody Jones), son of the White House Press secretary. Meanwhile, Moocher, a dead ringer for Liberty, must scrounge for scraps. During a traffic accident caused by an animal control worker who's intent on capturing Moocher, the lookalike doggies get switched. Embracing his pampered new lifestyle, Moocher befriends Nate, who couldn't stand Liberty, and just as quickly ingratiates himself with the President and his bewildered staff. While stuck in the pound, Liberty gets appropriated by con artist, Wishbow, (Vincent Schiavelli), who forces the snooty canine to pose as the First Dog at public appearances. Will Wishbow realize that he's snatched the real Liberty? If so, whatever will he do? Nate and Moocher must find a way to rescue Liberty and convince the President to adopt more compassionate policies. Insipid but as cute as a litter of — what else? — puppies, this canine retelling of Mark Twain's classic will draw oohs and ahs from dog lovers of all ages. Naturally, Liberty must acquire character through adversity; certainly, Moocher will awaken the administration's fiscal conscience. Anyone who believes our four-legged friends can manipulate human behavior will enjoy this mongrel diversion that combines moral lessons with frisky comedy.
