An intelligent low-budget entry set in Denmark during WW II, THE ONLY WAY concerns the Nazi round-up of Danish Jews, many of whom saw themselves more as Danes than Jews. When the occupying Germans decide to export them to the concentration camps, a typical local, Petersen (Ove Sprogoe),

acts bravely, not out of heroism but out of a duty to humanity. He helps organize a secret exodus from Denmark, making possible the safe passage to Sweden of some 7,000 potential Nazi victims in just a few days' time. Based on an actual incident, the film unfolds along predictable lines, but the

ensemble acting and particularly Sprogoe's quiet, anchoring performance create something extraordinary.
