Pichel is the bad guy, cheating homesteaders out of the money they've put down for land. In rides cowboy hero Taylor to right the wrongs, and to win the heart of Patrick as well. Based on a Zane Grey novel, the dialog and story are typical for a western, though some of the camera work and

lighting effects are such as are not normally found in a film like this. Otherwise it's all routine. The two lovely ladies, Andre and Patrick, were "discovered" by Paramount during a promotion for ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, with Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi. The studio had announced a "Panther

Woman" contest; it was seeking a catlike creature to play the role of Lota, the Panther Woman in that adaptation of H.G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau. Both beauties bombed as felines; the part went to Kathleen Burke. The studio signed losers Andre and Patrick anyway (Patrick had appeared in

one previous film).
