Doesn't come unravelled. This lively Hammer reworking of the classic mummy material stars Peter Cushing as John Banning, one of three British archaeologists who desecrate the tomb of an Egyptian princess, awakening Kharis (Lee), her mummified lover, who was buried alive with the princess

when she died. Kharis follows the archaeologists back to England and is about to kill Banning when he sees his victim's beautiful wife, Isobel (Furneaux), the spitting image of Kharis's lover, Princess Ananka. Stylishly directed by Terence Fisher (the action scenes, in particular, are

breathtakingly choreographed), THE MUMMY features a surprisingly energetic performance from Christopher Lee, whose mummy moves swiftly and with strength, unlike his slow, shuffling 1940s predecessors. By playing the Mummy, Lee completed something of a trilogy of terror, having already starred as

Frankenstein's Monster and Dracula. This remake really can't compare with the 1932 original and Lee is given no chance to flesh out his character in the haunting manner that Boris Karloff did, but for fairly standardized movie horror, this flick isn't half bad.
