Angela Lansbury takes over the Miss Marple role memorably played by Dame Margaret Rutherford in four pictures commencing with the 1962 British entry MURDER, SHE SAID. (Lansbury would again follow in Rutherford's path by starring in the television series "Murder, She Wrote"). An especially

exciting mystery for film buffs, THE MIRROR CRACK'D looks behind the scenes of a movie set in the 1950s. Taylor is a has-been actress who is trying to make a comeback while suffering a mental breakdown. Her problems stem from a mysterious trauma in her past, which may or may not have been

accidental. When a pair of murders shock the quiet hamlet where the film is being produced, Lansbury and her sleuthing nephew, inspector Fox, unearth the evidence that names the guilty party. The big-name cast is a great, nostalgic throwback to the 1950s, when its players' names--Elizabeth Taylor,

Rock Hudson, Kim Novak, Tony Curtis--graced giant theater marquees. Not as good as other Christie adaptations such as MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS or DEATH ON THE NILE, but still fun.
