A remake of De Sica's THREE CORNERED HAT (1934), this sex farce is nothing more than an amusing piffle but is so forced and labored that it bores within minutes. Loren is the sexy wife of miller Mastroianni, coveted by the new Spanish governor of Naples in the year 1860. The governor, De

Sica, arrests Mastroianni on trumped-up charges, then, with the miller languishing in a cell, he goes after his sensuous wife, offering a pardon for her husband if she will hop into bed. Loren outwits De Sica by drugging his drink, then skipping off to prison with the pardon, intending to free her

husband. Mastroianni, however, has already escaped and returns home to find De Sica, who he believes has had his way with his wife. Incensed, the miller goes to the governor's mansion, where he almost rapes De Sica's wife, but Loren stops him and convinces him that she has not bartered her ample

favors for his release. It's all a bit Neapolitan, too much for the average viewer to swallow. What's more, the film is so haphazardly directed by Camerini and so broadly acted by all, especially Loren, that only a few burlesque laughs are available. A poor entry from abroad.
