Colorful Korda production, fine family fare. This loose adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Books stars Sabu as Mowgli, a young man raised by wolves who returns to his native village with no idea of human language or customs.

Once he acquires speech, he captivates Mahala (Patricia O'Rourke), the daughter of the aged Buldeo (Joseph Calleia), with tales of the jungle and his animal friends. Mowgli and Mahala trek into the jungle and discover ruins of a lost civilization, filled with treasures. When Mahala returns to the

village with a gold coin, her father tries to get Mowgli to divulge the gold's location, but the boy refuses, fearing the village will be corrupted. Buldeo then turns others against the lad, who is sentenced to be burned at the nearest convenient stake.

Shot outside Los Angeles, the film features dazzling photography, expressive animals and a brilliant Miklos Rozsa score, with individual themes for each animal. An enchanting film for viewers of all ages.
