During the Korean war, soldiers Douglas, Walker, and Adams escape into the ocean during an attack by North Korean troops. They are picked up by a supply ship, which also picks up Magalona, a North Korean pilot whose plane was shot down. Douglas uses the ship's radio to contact a South Korean

major who orders him to kill Magalona. When he relays the message to Walker and Adams he finds that Adams has no problem with the orders but Walker finds the idea appalling. Douglas and Walker argue the point, but before the orders can be carried out, the Korean War ends, making it unnecessary to

execute Magalona. However, he speaks no English and believes the American soldiers are still a threat to him. As they try to explain the situation to him, a struggle ensues and Magalona is killed. Overloaded with symbolism and moral agonizing, THE HOOK quickly becomes a rather tedious film.

Director Seaton seems so intent on focusing on the moral dilemma these soldiers face that he ignores such basics as action and character development. Douglas, as the confused man caught between the noble Walker and the uncaring Adams, overplays his role, as he often had a tendency to do.
