McQueen and Mullaney are two naval officers who team with civilian computer expert Hutton in Venice. They come up with a scam to use their on-ship computer (known as Max) to figure out the Lido casino roulette wheel. After analyzing the data on computer, they hope to break the bank. Jagger

is the admiral who intercepts their ship-to-shore communications. He has no idea of the real scheme and interprets the signals to mean the ship is about to be attacked. Some craziness develops as he prepares for war, but all is set right in the end, with McQueen landing Jagger's daughter, Bazlen.

Based on a fairly successful play, the film works well as light farce. Hutton and Prentiss are romantic interests, repeating their on-screen romance from WHERE THE BOYS ARE (and they would do so once more in BACHELOR IN PARADISE). The sets are quite elaborate. The hotel suites are ornate and the

computer room is movie technology at its best. A fun little movie, it capitalized on the public's lack of knowledge of computers, a relatively new subject in 1961.
