Former film critic-turned-filmmaker Lizzani tried his hand at Sergio Leone's brand of western and came up with this moderately successful endeavor. It stars Hunter and Gazzolo as two confederate soldiers who manage to survive the Civil War and steal an army payroll. They split up, with

Hunter distracting the troops, allowing Gazzolo to escape with the loot. Hunter is captured and spends five years in prison. Upon his release he learns that his former partner is now wealthy and is responsible for the death of Hunter's wife. Knowing that Hunter is loose and seeking revenge,

Gazzolo hires crazed gunfighter Silva to kill the ex-convict. Aided by Duryea, Hunter escapes death, manages to infiltrate Gazzolo's fortress, and kills his former partner and his hired gun. Not as good as Sergio Leone's films, but it has its moments.
