This British mystery is set in the theatrical world, with most of the action taking place backstage. Maxwell, a beautiful thespian, is the star of a new stage hit produced by Pohlmann, who loves her. Maxwell, however, desires to perform in a new play written by American Robertson, but the

jealous (and financially astute) Pohlmann refuses to let her wriggle out of her contract. Soon after, Pohlmann winds up dead in his office with a pair of Maxwell's scissors in his back. Fearing that the actress was set up, Robertson helps Maxwell move the body. When the crime is discovered, the

police suspect just about everyone. In the end it appears that Maxwell indeed killed Polhmann, but the noble Robertson takes the rap.
