An improvement over the 1935 original with Edmund Lowe, this remake of THE GREAT IMPERSONATION takes place during WW II instead of WW I. Bellamy plays a dual role as an Englishman and his German doppelganger. At the war's outbreak, Bellamy kills his German lookalike and returns to England,

posing as a master spy for the Nazis, funneling false secret plans to German agents there. The enemy spies are rounded up while Bellamy returns to Germany. He is almost exposed before persuading Rudolph Hess to make his notorious plane trip to Scotland to ostensibly rendezvous with British Nazis,

only to be captured and thrown into the Tower of London. Bellamy is convincing and empathetic in a wild, provocative film that tip-toes through real incidents in an attempt to lend credibility to an incredible tale.
