Hays is a half-witted schoolteacher at a London boys' school from which the boys are evacuated to a damp and dreary Scottish castle during WW II. Legend has it that when someone is near death in the castle, bagpipes play. The pipes blow and Aylmer dies; they play again and Huntley dies.

The pipes let out another bellow, but before a third victim is claimed, Hays discovers that Mason, a collaborator with the Germans, is responsible for the deaths. An enjoyable comedy with a few thrills tossed in.
