Based loosely on the French film THE TWO ACES, this amusing Laurel and Hardy comedy casts the boys as Iowa fishmongers who travel to Paris and join the French Foreign Legion after Ollie is jilted by a waitress. Once in the famous fighting force, the boys become the victims of a series of

comic mishaps, and when they attempt to desert, they are captured and condemned to death. They escape in an airplane and go on a mad ride through the skies, until the plane crashes. Hardy dies and is reincarnated as a horse, while Laurel emerges totally unscathed. One of the film's cowriters was

baby-faced Harry Langdon, who was in between pictures as an actor. Another silent film veteran, James Finlayson--who could get more laughs with a squint than most actors could get with a full page of dialog--has a small role as a prison jailer.
