As a friend to the poor and needy, Dr. Diffring (Jurgens) goes through life good-naturedly helping everybody, a pure idealization of a vanished time in the medical world. His brother, also a doctor, is of another mold--he likes high society and, as a fashionable gynecologist, wallows in

decadence. A murder case brings the brothers together, and it turns out that brother Naumann is the guilty party. He ends up committing suicide. A fine script, with several good supporting performances, make this one well worth watching.
