Ecstasy-popping collegians take note: In this gruesome chiller, Satanists prowl a rural rave party for human sacrifices. Looking for cheap thrills, several young people attend an out-of-town rave, where they're scrutinized by local roughnecks. After a boozy brawl, the city teens decide to head home. But a van pursues them, so the college kids speed up and nearly crash into an already-bloodied woman named Fawn (Elena Lyons). She reveals that they've all have been singled out by the Shadow Cult. The Shadows tracking the teens to a cabin and star hunting them down, beginning with Joe (Rashaan Nall), who's gotten separated from the others. Although the frightened teens eventually seek refuge in a church, they discover that the picturesque Christian town is actually a hotbed of sorcery, endorsed by Minister Seth (Patrick Bergin). The frightened prey outsmart the village's cafe owners but keep running into other members of the Shadow coven — they're not the first smartass college kids to meet their demise at the hands of these bloodthirsty rubes. Things look grim when Seth shoots their last ally, the god-fearing Sheriff (Tim Thomerson). As the cult members round them up, the teens learn that human sacrifice occurs every six months; Fawn turns out to be a decoy who has led them to the slaughter. Can they free themselves and wipe out this band of bucolic devil-worshippers? This excessively gory chiller warns college-age egotists to beware of uneducated country folk. A few nifty plot twists mingle with idiotic behavior, and overall the film is notable primarily for its repellently sadistic atmosphere.
