Dance is integrated into the story line in this opulent, humorous tale of a troupe that performs the 1910 zarzuela "La Corte de Faraon"--long prohibited in Spain under the regime of Generalissimo Francisco Franco. The performance results in the arrest of the entire dance company, because

of the sexual innuendos expressed by the dance. In depositions given by the still-costumed performers at the police station, portions of the performance are reprised amidst much hullabaloo, with the police commissioner, Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez, viewing the goings-on with more than professional

interest, to the dismay of self-appointed censor-priest Agustin Gonzalez. This is a joyous spoof of a repressive period, beautifully designed and photographed. Shown on the film festival circuit in 1985. (In Spanish; English subtitles.)
