film features a great cast and is adapted from a funny and moving book by Joseph Wambaugh, but the result is an abysmal, disjointed mess. The treatment so enraged Wambaugh that it prompted him to become more involved with adaptations of his work, leading to his writing the screenplay for THE ONION
