War of 1812. In the process, Lafitte falls toupee-over-heels in love with Annette Claiborne (Inger Stevens), the daughter of William Claiborne, first governor of Louisiana. Brynner, dashing and powerful as the pirate Lafitte, plays his character with a fair amount of historical accuracy--not as a

the great epic director is very much present in the incredibly gaudy costumes (which earned designers Head, Jester and Jensen Academy Award nominations), sets, and trappings, as well as in the editing process, which De Mille supervised.
