worked on the small Vegas stage but not so well on the screen. Still, it is a bit of fun, and the music doesn't detract from the rollicking tenor of the story. Look for a brief bit by Collins as the highwaywoman, in one of rare films (she doesn't bare her breasts). Terry-Thomas, Howard, Melvin,

and Lloyd (who also wrote the screenplay) are delicious as they get right into the spirit, overplaying all the way. This version is not up to the original TOM JONES--much better than you might expect but not as good as you might hope. Lots of leers, ogles, antics, slamming doors, laughs, wenches,

and just about everything else you'd expect from a movie with such a title.
