This drive-in fare is long on action, short on character development, but not too bad if you don't expect much. In a small Georgia town vicious street toughs led by Paul Koslo have been terrorizing shopkeepers and home-owners. Since the police department shows little interest in helping

the community, Dennis Redfield, a crippled Vietnam vet who now lives and works with his father, Sid Conrad, tries to organize the citizens to fight back. For his efforts, Redfield is trapped by the gang and beaten to death. Christopher Stone shows up at the funeral and offers to help the community

because Redfield had saved his life in Vietnam. Soon the rest of Redfield's Vietnam group--Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Andy Wood, and Gerrit Graham--arrive in town, and the"annihilators" are reunited. A strong cast of action-film regulars helps keep THE ANNIHILATORS a watchable, but fairly mindless,

exercise in action. The bloodletting, except for a bit of gore near the beginning of the film, is quick with most of the emphasis on stunt falls rather than on blood. Stone makes an effective leader of the good guys, while Koslo is memorable as the psychotic gang leader.
