Virile drifter Hank (Eric Braden), recently discharged from service in Vietnam for refusing orders to shoot water buffalo, is persuaded to sign on as a helper on the bleak farm of Carl Steiner (Gregory Morton). Steiner is a violinist who lost his family in WWII, and then started over in the USA

with a much-younger second wife, Inez (Tyne Daly), only to accidentally run over and kill their son. Now impotent, Carl asks Hank to perform stud service with Inez to present the couple with another child. Hank angrily refuses--but then nature takes its course, and the hired man and Inez become

lovers. Unable to deal with his wife's pregnancy after all, Carl banishes Hank and, misinterpreting his rival's goodbye kiss to Inez, swings at the younger man with a scythe. Ever so symbolically, the harvest blade cuts down Inez instead.

The cast grapple unsuccessfully with weak production values (like sound which fades in and out) and weak scripting. (Violence, nudity, sexual situations, adult situations, substance abuse, profanity.)
