This hallucinatory splatter flick seems aimed squarely at college kids too smashed to tell a good horror movie from a slapdash one. Smitten with a coed named Tamlyn (Dru Mouser), California film student Johnny Orpheus (Joey Lawrence) bugs his buddies, Paul (Nathan Anderson) and Al (Josh Marchette), for advice on how to forge a love connection. Knowing that Tamlyn and her friends plan to attend a college mixer south of the border, Johnny's frat brothers plan a road trip. Other partygoers include Tamlyn's bullying ex-boyfriend and Johnny's nerdy classmate Ted (Robert Patrick Benedict). When Paul and Al contract Montezuma's Revenge in Mexico, an unorthodox doctor (Henry Darrow) cures them and gives Johnny an elixir that awakens visions of past lives and present danger. The boys run into Tamlyn and her sorority sisters and start flirting up a storm, but Ted crashes the get-together and freaks out Tamlyn. Later, a demonic cantina waitress strikes out with Johnny but seduces Ted with a tequila concoction that unleashes his inner evil. Ted, it ensues, is the reincarnation of Tamlyn's lover Hector (Rene L. Moreno) who decades earlier murdered Tamlyn and her lover before committing suicide. Taking possession of Tamlyn's soul, Hector carts her off to Hades. In order to prevent history from repeating itself, Johnny, Paul, and Al must venture to Hell and rescue her from the hottest party in the world. Can Johnny grapple with Hector's diabolical power, free Ted from his spell, and rescue Tamlyn and his buddies from this flaming fiesta? Unversed in the finer points of tongue-in-cheek acting, this film's callow cast mistakes overplaying for comic brio. A dose of camp might have goosed this hodge-podge into gory glory, but as it stands it's a special effects bonanza that's about as scary as a PSA about the perils of collegiate boozing.
