A small family--consisting of sterling Hayden as the father, McNalley as the mother, and Andrew Hayden as the son--live on a remote tropical island. Sterling Hayden is totally engrossed in birds, leaving his wife to a lonely and almost desperate existence. An escaped prisoner is believed

to be hiding on the island, which fills McNalley with excitement. She goes about leaving little knick-knacks for him until they eventually meet, at which point they have a quick fling. The atmosphere of the island is made to seem oppressive and as engendering this kind of effect on the characters.

Problems come when the director dwells too much on the scenery and not enough on the development of the plot or the characters.
